My initial psychotherapy training was in family systems therapy. This gave me a good grounding in understanding family dynamics and the systems in which we interact, including the immediate family, our family of origin, and broader social and cultural systems. I spent many years working with families who experienced grief and loss, through bereavement, family breakdown, or arising out of major life events that are difficult to come to terms with.
This formative work enabled me to develop my therapy approach that as individuals, we are connected to a broader network which influences us in some way. I also learnt that it is our losses in life that have a way of re-surfacing when we become stuck. Often it is a very early loss that we may not have yet had the chance to resolve
